Don’t Reinsert the Broken Key
First and most importantly don’t try to reinsert the broken part of the key into the lock. It may seem like the easy way to get the lock working again but pushing the broken part further into the mechanism will only make the problem worse. Once you’ve established your key is stuck keep the broken pieces safe but don’t try to force them in. A locksmith will need both pieces to make a new key for you.
Quick Prep: Lubricate the Lock
Lubricate the keyway to help loosen the broken key and make it easier to extract.
